Swelling in the knee joints

Animals often find it difficult to walk as their knee joints get swollen. For the treatment, equal quantities of the leaves of virali (Dodonaea angustifolia), aathi (Bauhinia racemosa), sithamutti (Pavonia odorata), peramutti (Pavonia zeylanica), neerkadambu (Mahonia leschenaultii), bark of marutham (Terminalia arjuna) and jamun (Syzygium cumini) are taken and boiled in two litre of water till the volume reduces to two litre. The decoction is administered orally. The herbal residue is wrapped in a cloth and placed over the swollen portion of the joint. NAPDB: Dodonaea is used to cure swelling in cattle (Reddy et al, 1988). Its leaves are used internally for treating rheumatism (Sukkawala et al, 1962; Hedberg et al, 1983; Rojas et al, 1996; Ramirez et al, 1988).See Honey Bee 6(4):10, 1995; 10(3):15, 1999; 11(4) and 12(1): 22, 2000-2001 Sallikodangipatti, District: Madurai.*The complete references are available at http://www.sristi.org/hb_magazine/index.html.
