Perennial Brinjal Variety

Two new brinjal varieties have been developed by grafting. These are not only high yielding and resistant to diseases but also cost effective and very remunerative as they bear fruits throughout the year for a number of years. One is the tall tree-type, named “Karthik Rakshaâ€_x009d_, that has a potential to grow up to 15 to 20 feet. The innovator has a brinjal tree that is almost two years old. It has already reached the height of 10 feet and bears heavily and continuously. The yield potential may range from 25 to 60 thousand kilos per acre, per year, with 900 to 1200 plants per acre. This variety is resistant to bacterial, fungal wilt and nematodes. The second type is the bushy tree “Anugocoriâ€_x009d_ that grows up to six or eight feet, and has a life span of eight years. The yield potential of this variety is 25 kilos per tree, per year, which means 25 thousand kilos per acre, per year, with two thousand trees per acre. The production is much higher compared to the annual varieties such as Arkasheel, Arka Navneath that yield 15 to 20 thousand kilos per acre. Both Karthik Raksha and Anugucori have medicinal properties, and are being used in the treatment of diabetic patients.
