Intercropping for disease control in Groundnut‘Tikka’ (Cercospora arachidicala) disease of groundnut is caused by a fungus and appears at flowering stage and reduces yield drastically. Intercropping of groundnut and greengram (Vigna radiata) in the ratio of 4:1, controls ‘tikka’ disease completely. Ashvinbhai encountered this practice accidentally. Once he planted groundnut with greengram and observed that his field was free from ‘tikka’ disease while it had affected fields of other farmers in the . From that year onward he started intercropping of the two. He is practicing it for the last five years and slowly other farmers of his are also trying it out.(Will state agriculture university, icar and other research institutions including icrisat take note of it and honour Ashwinbhai? Ed.)(See HB 6(3): 9, 1995; 9(1): 4, 1999 on practices of intercropping for disease control)<\/p>\n <\/li>\n
